Dental Bonding

Dental bonding involves attaching permanent dental materials, such as tooth-colored composites, to your teeth with dental adhesives and curing lights. If you’ve received any dental work, such as dental crowns, bridges, or veneers, then you most likely received dental bonding. At Dr. Thomas Piazza’s, our procedures for dental bonding focus on treating cracked, decayed, and discolored teeth to create a brighter, healthier smile without the use of dentures or tooth implants.

How Our Dental Bonding Process Works

Our dentists at Dr. Piazza will begin the procedure for dental bonding by using optical scanners, which will provide a digital map of your teeth and create a 3-D model of your teeth. Next, our dentists will use a tooth shade guide to choose the right color for the composite resin that matches your teeth shade. Composite resin, a plastic and glass mixture, can fill cavities, repair cracks, and close gaps between teeth. It’s also used t o make composite veneers, a cosmetic treatment made to replace significant damage to the natural tooth and create a perfectly matched tooth in its place. During the initial stages of the process, one of our dentists will remove small amounts of rough enamel from the tooth to replace it with the composite resin. Your dentist will place the composite resin in layers, using a curing, ultraviolet light to harden each layer.

Our dental bonding treatments are typically completed within one session. If needed, our dentist can also shape the tooth after the resin hardens to match the rest of the teeth in your mouth. Dental bonding doesn’t require any downtime and generally takes in between 30 to 60 minutes to complete. Dental bonding does not have any major risks, but the composite resin can be chipped due to impacts, such as jaw injuries and hard foods. However, composite resin doesn’t chip when it’s formed as a crown, filling, or veneer.

When you come into our office, you do not need any special preparations. Dental bonding is a quick, painless experience, and can instantly repair teeth to appear perfect again in a matter of a few hours. If you wish to learn more about our dental bonding services or have a problem with your composite resin bonding, then please call Dr. Piazza at 630-357-6400.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate for dental bonding?

If you have any minor cracks, discolorations, or fractures in your teeth, then dental bonding will be a great option for you. Dental bonding offers people attractive smiles without invasive procedures such as dental implants. Consult with us to determine if you qualify for dental bonding.

How do I care for my dental bondings?

Teeth with dental bondings can still be stained, so to avoid this, avoid drinking tea, coffee, and sodas for at least 48 hours after the procedure. Brushing your teeth regularly and flossing will also extend the life of your dental bondings, and visiting your dentist regularly every six months to a year will also benefit you in the long run.
