Dental Cleaning & Consultation

One of the most essential things you can do to maintain excellent dental health for a lifetime is receiving regular preventative dental care. We here at Dr. Thomas Piazza are proud to provide the people of Naperville, IL, with the dental cleaning and consultation services they require to reach this goal. Combining education and excellent care, we equip our patients with the tools they need to be the perfect partner in maintaining their oral health.

How Often Should I See My Dentist For A Cleaning?

Every year you should see your dentist at least twice, at six-month intervals. During these visits, you’ll undergo a full professional cleaning and be examined for concerns that may be growing regarding your oral health. These can include simple concerns such as issues with wisdom teeth coming in or cavities, but can also include complex concerns such as oral cancer. Regular preventative care appointments ensure that you’ll stay ahead of plaque and tartar, and catch problems before they become difficult and expensive to correct.

How Do Professional Cleanings Do More Than My Home Care Routine?

While daily brushing, flossing, and use of mouthwash are essential components of maintaining good dental health, they have their limitations. Plaque and tartar can be tricky to remove completely, and often require the attention of your hygienist or dentist. This can be due to improper brushing habits, or dental health issues that require further treatment to correct. Eliminating plaque and tartar helps prevent decay that can cause expensive dentistry needs later.

What Happens During My Consultation and Exam?

During your visit, you’ll undergo a full dental exam. This includes a comprehensive examination of the gums and teeth and often includes the taking of x-rays to look for issues not visible to the naked eye. During your visit, you’ll speak to Dr. Piazza and explain any oral health concerns you may have, and ask any questions about treatment options that are available for you. After your cleaning, you may be scheduled to come back for additional visits to address any concerns that are identified.

What Should I Do To Prepare For My Visit?

The best thing you can do to prepare for your visit is to maintain your typical dental hygiene routine, both before and after your visit. You can also print out and prepare any forms you need ahead of time from our patient resource page so you won’t have to spend time doing that at the office. Bring your insurance information, as well as your dental and medical history, if it’s your first visit.
